Sonya Holder (Errington)

Clinical Psychologist, BSc (Psych) (Hons), MPsych (Clin), MAPS

Sonya is a clinical psychologist who completed her Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She has experience in a diverse range of clinical settings, including private practice, persistent pain services, tertiary and school institutions and alcohol and drug services.

Sonya is passionate about assisting individuals with a range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, stress, addictions, trauma, and relationship difficulties.

She also is passionate about using her experience from working in a persistent pain clinic, to achieve positive outcomes for clients experiencing chronic pain. Sonya has a special interest in chronic pain management, with a focus on managing the unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours that accompany the discomfort of persistent pain.  This has been shown to help with more effectively coping with pain and potentially reducing the intensity of pain.

Gambling, drug, alcohol and other addiction counselling is also an area Sonya has a keen interest in. Most people have habit-forming tendencies, however some of us are susceptible to developing an addiction to a substance or unhealthy behaviour due to genetic factors, mental health issues or environmental factors. Sonya helps her clients take control of their addiction and ultimately overcome it by determining the cause, its triggers and any indicators of relapse behaviour. Unresolved emotional life experiences quite often need to be explored to effectively overcome unhealthy cycles or patterns of behaviour.

Sonya is also available to assist those seeking domestic violence (DV) counselling. Contact the practice and ask for a consultation with Sonya if you or someone you know would like to speak with a psychologist about an abusive relationship.

Sonya is committed to creating a non-judgmental and welcoming environment and enjoys studying human behaviour and mental processes to formulate how they affect clients' lives and to help resolve issues. To learn more about Sonya or to book an appointment, please contact us on (07) 5479 3538.

She is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA) and is a member of the  Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). She is also experienced with the workers compensation and veterans affairs systems.
